Jews superior to angels
As a non-Jew, my soul is equal to that of a worm. The Jew on the other hand, is superior even to God's angels
Jewish professor Sacha Stern elucidates:
"Israel (the Jews) and the angels are presented in various Midrashim as equals. Whereas each nation (of the 70) are under the jurisdiction of an angel, Israel are under direct jurisdiction of the Almighty. In some respects Israel even surpass the angels, which is why they alone were given the Torah and the commandments. Israel have the power to pass decrees on the worlds above: for instance they fix the date of the New Year, which is then conveyed to the angels by the Almighty. Israel are dearer to the Almighty than the angels, for Israel praise Him more frequently, and of their own initiative; the angels cannot sing above until Israel have begun to sing below. In the future-to-come, the angels will have no access to the precinct of Israel."source

In this respect, the passages I have quoted should not be dismissed as 'not really meaning what they say'.
